The following is a constant growing list of toxic and poisonous items that are found around the house and should no way be considered complete.  Some items are non-toxic but will cause gastrointestional upset.  Some we do not know why they are toxic but know they are.  This list is to be used for information purposes only and should never replace the knowledge or instructions of a licensed veterinarian. 

In the Kitchen

Food:
       
Alcoholic beverages can cause intoxication, coma and death

        Apples seeds

        Apricots pits

        Artificial sweetners
    
        Avocado pits and skin are especially poisonous to birds.  Avocado is a fruit and like other fruits that have a pit, the pits contain of cyanide and are toxic when chewed.

       Baby foods

       Bamboo shoots (fresh)

       Bones such as fish, poultry and other meat sources can cause obstruction or laceration of the digestive system.

        Caffeine (coffee, tea and soda) comes in many forms.  Coffee grounds and used tea bags being the worse.

        
       Chocolate is deadly.  It only takes a little bit of the right chocolate to case damage.  The more potent the chocolate such as semi-sweet and baker's chocolate, the more deadly.  Chocolate contains caffeine but the ingerdient theobromine is the culprit.  White chocolate is not a true chocolate but should be avoided because of the sugar contant.  The

        Chili mix packets

        Fatty foods such as the skin from poultry and fat trimmings can bring on pancreatitis very quickly.

       Macadamia Nuts tend to cause gastrointestional upsets, lethargy, vomiting and mustle tremors or stiffness.
